Ponte Vescovo Jordan, Steel pedestrian bridge in Ostrów Tumski, Poland.
Ponte Vescovo Jordan is a red steel bridge that crosses the Cybina River, connecting the districts of Śródka and Ostrów Tumski. It measures roughly 72 meters long and about 15 meters wide for pedestrians.
The location served as a crossing point long ago, with archaeological digs uncovering wooden piles from the 10th century beneath the riverbed. The current structure was built in 2007 using elements from a previous bridge.
The railings hold hundreds of padlocks inscribed with names, following a custom inspired by Italian literature that couples continue today. This practice reflects how people use the space to mark personal connections and moments.
The bridge is easily accessible for pedestrians and provides a direct route across the river between the two districts. The surface is flat and straightforward, making it quick for most people to cross.
During construction in 2007, workers transported the entire bridge structure along the riverbed and positioned it across an adjacent span. This creative approach preserved materials from an earlier crossing while creating a modern passage.
