Kadzidłowo Zoo, Wildlife park in Mrągowo County, Poland
Kadzidłowo Zoo spreads across about 100 hectares (247 acres) of Puszcza Piska forest and houses over 160 animal and bird species from different continents. The creatures live in spacious enclosures designed to mimic their natural environments.
The zoo started in 1991 when a former Polish Academy of Sciences employee began rescuing injured and orphaned wildlife in Kadzidłowo. This initial animal rescue project grew into a full-fledged facility dedicated to animal care and nature conservation.
The park is named after Professor Benedykt Dybowski, a renowned Polish zoologist who conducted pioneering research at Lake Baikal and published over 350 scientific works. His legacy shapes the approach to animal observation and conservation work carried out here today.
The park is open daily from morning until sunset and accepts cash payments only. The nearest ATMs are located in the nearby towns of Mikołajki and Ruciane-Nida.
The park is home to one of the largest populations of rare white Saint Hubert deer, a subspecies with only a handful of specimens remaining worldwide. These special animals play an important role in the international breeding program for this endangered population.
