The equestrian monument of Bartolomeo Colleoni is a bronze sculpture of an Italian military commander on a horse, dressed in historical armor and weapons. The statue stands in Lotnikov Square in central Szczecin and stands out for its size and detailed craftsmanship.
The statue was erected in 1913 and is based on an original by Andrea Verrocchio from 1495, which can be seen in Venice. It was part of a project to enrich Szczecin's art collection with reproductions of famous works.
The statue depicts an Italian military commander on horseback in full armor, a form that originated in the 15th century and was reproduced here in Szczecin. This monument shapes the appearance of Lotnikov Square and reminds visitors of the artistic connection between Italian Renaissance and Prussian culture.
The monument is located in Lotnikov Square in the city center and is easy to reach on foot. The square is well served by public transport and visible from many directions.
The monument was moved to Warsaw after World War II before being returned to Szczecin in 2002. This eventful history reflects the changes the region experienced during the 20th century.
