Las Piwnicki Nature Reserve

Las Piwnicki Nature Reserve is a protected forest area near Piwnice village containing mature oak and pine stands of varying ages. The site spreads across several square kilometers with dense woodland and diverse forest types throughout the landscape.

The forest received protected status in 1956 to preserve its old woodland communities and natural structure. A later expansion added adjacent forest areas to strengthen the overall conservation effort.

A research station operated by the University of Nicolaus Copernicus sits within the reserve, making it an active hub for ecological study. This presence reflects how the forest functions as a living laboratory for understanding the region's natural systems.

A walking trail loops through different forest sections and offers good views of the landscape throughout the route. Wear sturdy footwear and stay on marked paths to protect the delicate forest environment and ensure safe movement through the area.

A stream forms the boundary of the protected area and works together with the forest to create a coherent habitat system. This interplay between water and woodland makes the location ecologically distinct.
