Ryczów Castle

Ryczow Castle is a medieval watchtower ruin perched on a limestone cliff within the Polish Jura Chain. Its stone remnants include defensive walls and foundation structures that rise from the natural rock formations.

In the 14th century, King Casimir the Great ordered construction of this watchtower to defend Poland's western frontier. The building was one of several fortifications designed as a coordinated defensive line.

The castle is part of the Eagles Nests Trail, connecting medieval fortresses across limestone landscapes between two major cities. Visitors walk this route to explore how defensive structures once shaped the region.

Visiting requires sturdy footwear due to rocky terrain and uneven ground throughout the site. Pay special attention when conditions are wet or muddy, as surfaces become slippery.

Local villagers gradually removed stone from the structure over centuries to build houses in nearby communities. This slow dismantling shows how residents used the ruin as a practical source of building material.
