Fontanna Bamberki w Poznaniu

The Fontanna Bamberki in Poznań is a bronze fountain in the Old Market Square featuring a female figure in traditional dress holding wine carriers. The sculpture stands on a stone pedestal and is surrounded by water basins that form part of the overall composition.

A local wine merchant named Leopold Goldenring commissioned sculptor Józef Wackerle to create this fountain in 1915. The work came during a period when the city was developing rapidly and honoring its past through various artistic projects.

The statue depicts a woman from Bamberg, a German city whose residents migrated to Poznań in the 18th century and shaped local wine production. Today it serves as a reminder of this connection between the two places and the stories of people who settled in the city.

The fountain is located on the western side of the Town Hall on the Old Market Square and is easy to find as it serves as a central landmark in this busy area. Visitors can explore the surroundings year-round, with the water basins operating fully during summer months.

The model for the bronze sculpture was Jadwiga Gadziemska, an employee at Goldenring's winery, who posed for the artwork. Her selection as the model was surprising because she had no connection to Bamberg heritage, showing that the work was more about local stories than historical accuracy.
