Działyński Palace in Poznań, Baroque palace in Old Market Square, Poland
The Działyński Palace is a baroque building on the Old Market Square in Poznań with a two-story facade featuring decorative profiles and a triangular gable. The roof structure includes a mansard design hidden behind an attic level that adds vertical character to the composition.
The palace was built between 1773 and 1776 as a baroque structure that became a fixture of the square's appearance. Following severe fire damage in 1945, the building underwent comprehensive restoration work from 1953 to 1957.
The Red Chamber displays four reconstructed stucco figures representing important Polish rulers from different historical periods. These statues give the room a sense of historical importance and royal connection.
The building now serves as a branch of the Kórnik Library and functions as part of the Polish Academy of Sciences, providing access to historical documents and research collections. Its position on the Old Market Square makes it easy to locate and include in a walk through the historic center.
The attic level features relief sculptures from 1800 depicting ancient military processions complete with soldiers, prisoners, and even a bull. These rare decorative elements are accompanied by a symbolic pelican statue that presides over the scene.
