Saint Anthony of Padua church in Poznań

Saint Anthony of Padua church in Poznań is a Baroque brick building featuring three naves, two side chapels, and barrel vaults in the main spaces. The interior is decorated throughout with detailed stucco ornamentation.

A wooden structure on the site was destroyed by fire in 1656, leading to construction of the current brick building starting in 1674 and completed in 1757. The rebuilding reflected the effort to restore religious spaces after the fire.

Inside, you can see extensive wall paintings created between 1702 and 1735 by Franciscan friar Adam Swach depicting religious scenes and saints throughout the space. These images give the church its distinctive visual character.

The building sits west of the Old Market Square and is reached via a stone staircase built in 1875 to handle differences in street levels over time. The climb to the church provides a natural transition from the town center.

A small chapel inside contains a 17th century painting known as 'Miraculous Holy Mother - Lady of Poznań' that draws special reverence from visitors. This artwork attracts those interested in its documented spiritual importance to local believers.
