Źródła Olechówki – park in Łódź, Park in Olechów-Janów, Łódź, Poland
Źródła Olechówki is a park in the Olechów-Janów district of Łódź, built around the natural springs where the Olechówka river begins. The grounds consist mainly of wet meadows, groups of trees, and unpaved paths that wind through a partly marshy floodplain landscape.
The park was established in 2010 on land long known for its natural springs, which once supplied fresh water to the surrounding settlements. In the years that followed, the city of Łódź invested in new paths and facilities to make the area more welcoming.
The tężnia – a wooden graduation tower – is one of the most eye-catching structures in the park. Built in 2018, it works as a natural inhaler by releasing salty mist as water trickles through blackthorn branches, and locals often gather around it on sunny days.
The park sits between Aleja Ofiar Terroryzmu 11 Września and the streets Kazimierza Odnowiciela and Bolka Świdnickiego, and is easy to reach on foot. Since parts of the ground can be marshy, sturdy footwear is a good idea, especially after rain.
Graduation towers like the tężnia in this park were originally used to produce table salt through evaporation, a method known in Poland since the Middle Ages. In winter, when the tower is not running, the mound beneath it becomes a popular sledding slope for children.
