Parachute Tower Katowice, Steel parachute tower in Kościuszko Park, Katowice, Poland.
The Parachute Tower is a 35-meter-tall steel lattice structure in Kościuszko Park that originally served as a training facility for parachute jumps. The building features a training platform at the top and stands on sturdy steel legs that form its distinctive frame.
The structure was built in 1937 as a parachute training facility. On September 4, 1939, it became a battleground when Polish Scouts fought against German forces.
The tower serves as a memorial to Polish Scouts who fought to defend Katowice during the opening days of World War II. Visitors can still see how this structure represents their sacrifice today.
The tower is accessible via the main paths through Kościuszko Park in the Brynów-Osiedle Zgrzebnioka district. The park is easy to navigate and the structure is visible from most points within the green space.
This is the only surviving parachute tower of its kind in Poland, though it was reconstructed to 35 meters from an original height of 50 meters. The reduction in height reflects how historical structures are sometimes modified to endure over time.
