Belmonte, Medieval mountain town in Castelo Branco, Portugal
Located at 544 meters elevation, Belmonte sits on the eastern slopes of Serra da Estrela with views extending to the Zezere River valley.
The 13th-century granite castle became the residence of the Cabral family following a grant from King Afonso V in recognition of their loyalty.
