Circuito Vasco Sameiro, motorsport racing track
Circuito Vasco Sameiro is a racing track in Palmeira near Braga that stretches just over 3 kilometers and features 15 turns. Built on a former airfield, the facility has wide straights and curves of varying sharpness that accommodate both cars and motorcycles for racing and training.
The racing facility was built in 1990 and opened to racers in 1993. Since then it has hosted numerous national events and in 2009 its first major international competition, the European Touring Car Cup.
The track is named after a well-known Portuguese racing driver and reflects the local passion for motorsport. Events here bring racing fans and drivers from across the region together, creating a sense of community around the sport.
The track is located about 6 kilometers north of Braga and is easily reached by car, roughly 50 minutes from the nearest major airport at Porto. Visitors can walk around the grounds, view the pit areas, and watch from various spots along the course, though it is wise to check event schedules beforehand.
The smaller kart track on the grounds hosted the Karting World Championship in 2000 and 2005. The open setting on the former airfield provides good sightlines and makes the venue a special training ground for racing drivers looking to hone their skills.
