The Igreja de Santa Catarina features a simple exterior facade contrasting with an interior filled with gilded baroque decorations and ornate woodwork.
The church structure, established in 1647, remains one of the few buildings that withstood the destructive earthquake of 1755 in Lisbon.
The church interior contains large paintings by 18th-century Portuguese artists Vieira Lusitano and André Gonçalves, displayed in gilt frames.
The church maintains free entry for visitors, while access to the sacred art museum requires a payment of 2 euros.
The church houses a monumental organ surrounded by gilded woodwork and displays a stucco rococo ceiling considered among the finest in Europe.
