Seteais Palace, Neoclassical palace and luxury hotel in São Martinho, Portugal

Seteais Palace is a neoclassical building with a symmetrical U-shaped structure that rises on a hillside overlooking Sintra. Decorated cornices, grand rooms, and frescoes by Jean-Baptiste Pillement fill the interior, reflecting the wealth of those who once lived there.

A Dutch consul named Daniel Gildemeester built the palace between 1783 and 1787 on an elevated site. A ceremonial arch was later added to honor Prince John VI and Princess Carlota Joaquina, marking the building's political importance.

The name comes from the seven echoes that occur when you shout inside its halls. The formal gardens reflect romantic tastes of the period, showing how visitors can experience both the interior spaces and the surrounding greenery together.

The building now operates as a luxury hotel where visitors can walk through its historical rooms and gardens. The elevated location makes it a good starting point for exploring Sintra and its surrounding green landscape.

The building is famous for producing seven echoes when you shout in its halls, revealing the unique acoustics of its spaces. This distinctive feature attracted notable guests who stayed here and became part of the palace's story.
