Vasco da Gama Tower

Vasco da Gama Tower is a steel structure in Parque das Nações that rises 145 meters above the Tagus River. The tubular metallic frame resembles a ship's mast and sail when viewed from different angles.

The tower opened in 1998 as the centrepiece of Expo '98, a World Fair celebrating Portugal's maritime history. It became a permanent landmark after the fair ended, transforming the riverside area.

The tower is named after the Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama, reflecting the country's connection to maritime exploration and discovery. Its design as a ship's mast makes this historical reference visible to everyone who visits or passes by.

The tower features an observation deck offering views across Lisbon and the river landscape in all directions. The area is easy to reach on foot, with multiple entry points to the park grounds.

The tower's dome windows feature QR codes that share stories about Portugal during the visit. These digital elements add layers of information about the country's heritage as visitors take in the panoramic views.
