Serras de Aire e Candeeiros Nature Park

The park extends across 39,900 hectares of limestone formations, featuring extensive cave networks, cliffs, and Mediterranean vegetation in central Portugal.

Founded in 1979, this protected area contains prehistoric dinosaur tracks from the Jurassic period, measuring up to 95 centimeters in length.

The region maintains traditional practices of salt extraction in mines near River Maior, following methods unchanged for over eight centuries.

Sixteen marked walking trails traverse the park, offering routes suitable for different fitness levels while providing access to geological formations.

The park houses 18 different bat species within its cave system, making it one of Portugal's primary locations for subterranean wildlife observation.
