Castle of Vidigueira, Medieval castle in Vidigueira, Portugal

The rectangular fortress contains a square tower with minimal decorative elements, featuring granite stonework and cruciform slits in its walls.

The castle changed ownership from Master Tome to the Crown, then to the House of Braganza, before being granted to Vasco da Gama in 1519.

The structure represents the architectural evolution of Portuguese defensive buildings, transitioning from military fortifications to noble residences in the 15th century.

The castle grounds remain accessible to visitors, located at coordinates 38.213005 latitude and -7.80228 longitude in the Baixo Alentejo region.

A preserved Manueline window stands as the last remnant of the original palace section, while the tower displays the coat of arms of the Counts of Vidigueira.
