The museum opened in 1930 under Archbishop Manuel Vieira de Matos, occupying the 18th-century House of Cabido built during Archbishop Rodrigo de Moura Teles' time.
The collection contains a 16th-century ceremonial dress gifted by King Manuel to Archbishop Diogo de Sousa, representing Portuguese royal patronage of religious institutions.
Located at Rua D. Paio Mendes, the museum operates Tuesday through Sunday from 9:00 to 17:30 during winter months and extends hours until 18:30 in summer.
The museum houses an 18th-century silver and gold-plated custodial set decorated with 450 diamonds and a 17th-century portable organ from Archbishop Luis de Sousa.
