Castle of Alegrete

The Castle of Alegrete is a medieval fortress built on elevated ground with an irregular layout and defensive walls. The structure features rounded towers and enclosed courtyards that once served military purposes.

The fortress was established in 1160 under King Afonso Henriques and underwent major construction work in 1319 during the reign of King Dinis. These building phases shaped the structure as it appears today.
