National Theatre and Dance Museum, National museum of performing arts in Lumiar, Portugal
The National Theatre and Dance Museum contains more than 300,000 pieces including costumes, stage props, scenes, figurines, billboards, programs, and photographic records.
The museum opened its doors in 1985 inside the eighteenth-century Monteiro-Mor Palace, which underwent restoration to accommodate the cultural institution.
The institution maintains a specialized library of 35,000 volumes and organizes exhibitions focusing on both renowned performers and specific aspects of theater arts.
The museum welcomes visitors from Tuesday through Sunday between 10:00 and 18:00, with free admission for children under 12 and Portuguese residents on Sundays.
The collection includes 120,000 photographs documenting Portuguese performing arts history, making it the largest archive of its kind in the country.
