Parque Botânico do Monteiro-Mor

Monteiro-Mor Botanical Park is a garden and park property spread across 11 hectares with several terraced levels. The upper section contains tall mature trees, while the lower area has been planted with younger specimens.

The estate dates back to the 18th century when botanist Domingos Vandelli organized the gardens under supervision of the 3rd Marquis of Angeja. This aristocratic effort made it one of the important botanical projects of that era.

The two museums housed here, one dedicated to traditional costumes and another to theater history, show how this place merges artistic collections with nature. Visitors can walk through green spaces while discovering historical exhibitions.

The park is accessible most days and can be easily walked through, as pathways connect the various levels together. Set aside time to visit both museum collections, as these are also housed on the grounds.

The grounds contain rare and ancient specimens of Araucarias, Sequoias, and other exotic trees that have been growing here for centuries. These old trees rank among the oldest of their kind in Portugal.
