Igreja de Santiago de Antas, Medieval religious monument in Antas, Portugal.

Igreja de Santiago de Antas is a church in Antas featuring four pointed archivolts supported by columns with Gothic capitals and a rose window above the main portal. The modern section accommodates 500 people for religious services and contains five educational spaces on the lower level.

This church was built in the 13th century as part of a Templar monastery complex and transferred to the Augustinian Canons in 1549. The monastery itself disappeared while the church remained and continued to develop over time.

The interior displays a blend of Gothic and Romanesque styles through capitals decorated with geometric, botanical, and zoomorphic patterns. These details shape how visitors experience the space and reflect the artistic vision of its builders.

It is best to check local opening times before visiting since this is an active religious site used for services. The architectural features are visible from both outside and inside, and access is generally straightforward.

The wooden floor contains embedded marble lines that symbolize the Jordan River and the blood from Saint James's sword. This detail connects medieval religious symbolism to the everyday space where visitors walk.
