Farol da Mama, Upper light in Carnaxide e Queijas, Portugal
The Mama Lighthouse stands 15 meters tall on a round hill at 145 meters altitude, featuring a metal tripod structure with two galleries and a lantern.
The first documented reference of this maritime navigation aid dates back to 1607, when a structure already marked this strategic point near Lisbon's harbor.
Located in Serra de Carnaxide, this lighthouse forms part of Portugal's maritime infrastructure network, guiding vessels through the southern entrance of Lisbon's port.
The lighthouse operates with a Tideland RL 355 directional flashlight installed in 1995, providing navigation guidance up to 21 nautical miles from the coast.
The structure resembles a space rocket on its launch pad with its white-painted tripod base and red spiral staircase leading to observation galleries.
