National Museum of Ethnology, Ethnographic museum in Belém, Portugal
The National Museum of Ethnology maintains a collection of 40,000 objects representing 380 cultures from Africa, Asia, South America, and traditional Portuguese societies.
Founded in 1965 as Museum of Overseas Ethnology under Jorge Dias direction, the institution received its current name after joining the Institute of Portuguese Museums in 1990.
The Portuguese Rural Life Galleries exhibit agricultural technologies and home utensils gathered across Portugal during field research conducted in the 1960s and 1970s.
Located at coordinates 38°42′17″N 9°12′31″W, the museum opens Tuesday afternoons and Wednesday through Sunday from 10:00 to 18:00, with adult admission at 5 euros.
Two storage rooms remain accessible to visitors through guided tours, allowing direct observation of artifacts not currently displayed in regular exhibitions.
