The maritime station features large glass windows and concrete structure with two main sections: a vestibule and an expansive central hall with a terrace.
Designed by architect Porfírio Pardal Monteiro in 1934, the terminal was constructed between 1945 and 1948 during Portugal's Estado Novo public works program.
The terminal walls display murals created by artist Almada Negreiros, representing a significant integration of modern art within Portuguese public architecture.
