Gare Marítima da Rocha do Conde de Óbidos

The Gare Marítima da Rocha do Conde de Óbidos is a maritime terminal with large glass windows and concrete construction in Lisbon's Estrela district. The building contains two main sections: an entrance vestibule and a spacious central hall with a terrace facing the Tagus River.

Architect Porfírio Pardal Monteiro designed the terminal in 1934, and construction took place between 1945 and 1948 during Portugal's public works programs. The building arose during a period when Portugal was reshaping its public infrastructure.

The walls feature murals by artist Almada Negreiros that brought modern art into Lisbon's public spaces. Visitors passing through can see how these artworks shape the everyday experience of moving through the building.

The entrance sits directly at the water level and the passenger area occupies the first floor of the building. Visitors can step out onto the terrace to enjoy views of the river and surrounding areas.

The building functions both as a working maritime hub and as a space for cultural exhibitions and community activities. This dual purpose makes it a place where transportation and arts come together in daily use.
