Estrela

Estrela is an administrative district in western Lisbon that stretches toward the Tagus River, marked by broad avenues and neoclassical buildings spread throughout its residential neighborhoods. The area displays a mix of architectural styles with public squares integrated into the street layout.

The district was established in 2012 as part of Lisbon's administrative reorganization, merging three former parishes into one unit. This restructuring reshaped the city's territorial organization and created the current neighborhood boundaries.

The Jardim da Estrela serves as a gathering place where local residents spend afternoons walking, playing, and sitting beneath the trees. It reflects how the neighborhood values outdoor spaces for daily community life.

The district is well served by public transportation with bus lines and nearby train stations making it easy to navigate. Essential services like shops, restaurants, and healthcare facilities are distributed throughout the area for visitor convenience.

The Basilica of the Heart of Jesus sits atop the highest point of the district, its large dome visible from many vantage points across Lisbon. Built during the 1800s, this structure serves as a visual landmark recognizable from considerable distances.
