The Residência Oficial do Primeiro-Ministro is a late 19th-century mansion located within the grounds of São Bento Palace in Lisbon's Estrela district.
Joaquim Machado Cayres built this private mansion in 1877, which was later expropriated in 1928 to serve as the residence for Portugal's prime minister.
The residence displays architectural elements from the 1800s and contains an annual exhibition of contemporary Portuguese art collections, refreshed each October.
The gardens of the residence open to the public every Sunday, allowing visitors to explore the grounds unless official engagements prevent access.
In 2007, the residence received modern energy improvements with the installation of a wind turbine and photovoltaic panels while maintaining its historical character.
