Edifício Parnaso

Edifício Parnaso is a residential and commercial building in Cedofeita that mixes living spaces with shops and services, featuring an inner garden courtyard. This central green space connects the different residential and commercial areas while providing natural light throughout.

Construction of Edifício Parnaso began in 1955 under architect José Carlos Loureiro, representing a shift away from Porto's traditional architectural styles of the time. The building emerged during a period when the city was embracing more modern design approaches.

The building houses the Parnaso Music and Ballet School, which shaped artistic education in Porto since its founding. You can still see the spaces where generations of dancers and musicians trained.

The building can be visited through guided tours offered on weekends with groups kept small for a detailed experience. This allows visitors to explore the architectural details and spatial flow at a comfortable pace.

The building uses circulation galleries and varying ceiling heights to create different spatial experiences as you move through it. This thoughtful design creates surprising connections between the many levels and volumes throughout the structure.
