Chapelle d'Água de Pau, Religious chapel in Água de Pau, Portugal.
Chapelle d'Água de Pau is a six-sided religious structure standing at Pico da Figueira with a single altar and a statue of Nossa Senhora do Monte carved in Lisbon. The site includes information panels that guide visitors through its religious and historical significance.
The structure was completed in 1931 by Teófilo Tavares do Canto and his wife to honor reported appearances of the Virgin Mary to their daughter. Its construction marked an important moment in the religious life of the region.
The chapel draws faithful visitors who come to pray and participate in local religious gatherings. It remains a meeting point where the community gathers for worship and commemoration.
The site is accessible through marked paths leading upward to the chapel. Visitors should prepare for slopes and natural terrain when making the journey to reach the location.
Behind the chapel stands a replica of the Dozulé Cross, installed in 1998 with permission from the Diocese of Angra. This cross is a somewhat unexpected addition to this small pilgrimage site.
