Palácio dos Condes da Guarda, Cascais

Museu da Vila sits within a palace in central Cascais and displays objects from different periods of the region's history. The collection spans from prehistoric times through the modern era and occupies multiple rooms throughout the building.

The palace was acquired in 1910 by Count Castro de Guimarães, who gathered an important collection of objects. The building was converted to a public museum in 1931 following generous donations to the town.

The building served as a private residence for generations, preserving much of its original character throughout the years. Today visitors can see an old grocery shop frozen in the early 1900s, now functioning as the museum shop with its shelves and fixtures intact.

The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday and sits near the main square, making it easy to reach on foot. Plan enough time to move through the rooms at a comfortable pace and view the displays throughout the building.

The museum features digital displays that let visitors photograph themselves in settings from around 1900. These interactive features blend historical scenes with modern technology in an engaging way.
