Father Francisco Xavier Leite Fragoas initiated the construction of this religious site in 1794 after receiving permission from the Archbishop of Braga.
The sanctuary hosts annual celebrations during the second and third Sundays of September, drawing numerous faithful from surrounding regions to participate.

The sanctuary emerged from a promise made by Father Fragoas who, after recovering from illness, dedicated funds for its construction and maintenance.
