Stadium 974 is an association football ground in Ras Abu Aboud near Doha Port, with an exterior built from shipping containers and views overlooking the Arabian Gulf. The structure combines industrial elements with open sections that allow natural ventilation and reveal glimpses of the waterfront.
The venue opened in November 2021 to host matches during the 2022 FIFA World Cup. This opening marked a new approach to sustainable stadium construction through the use of reusable materials.
The name 974 combines Qatar's international dialing code with the 974 recycled shipping containers used in the structure. Qatari officials describe the project as a tribute to the adjacent port and Doha's maritime traditions. The stadium received a four-star rating from the Global Sustainability Assessment System (GSAS).
The stadium seats about 40,000 spectators on a 450,000-square-metre waterfront site in Ras Abu Aboud, roughly 10 km south-east of central Doha. The nearest metro stop is Ras Abu Aboud station, the terminus of the Gold Line, which links to the Red and Green lines. The venue has no smart cooling system; its position beside the Gulf provides ventilation.
This modular venue can be fully dismantled after major events, with its components intended for reuse in other construction projects. The containers and steel framework can be taken apart and reassembled elsewhere, setting this facility apart from conventional grounds.
