Al Shaheen Oil Field, Offshore oil field in Persian Gulf, Qatar
Al Shaheen is an offshore oil field in the Persian Gulf off Qatar's coast, spanning thousands of square kilometers. The field operates through more than 30 connected platforms that extract oil and gas, transporting these resources through pipelines to processing facilities.
The field was discovered in 1992 and began operations shortly after. Initial geological surveys and partnerships with international operators established it as an ongoing source of energy production in the region.
North Oil Company, a partnership between Qatar Petroleum and Total, operates this field and demonstrates how different nations collaborate in energy production. This joint management shapes the technical approaches and knowledge-sharing that take place across the platforms.
The field is not open to public visits as it is an active industrial facility with strict safety requirements. Information about operations is available through official company communications and technical publications.
In 2008, engineers at the field drilled an extended reach well measuring approximately 12,000 meters in total length, completing it in just 36 days. This project set a world record at the time for extended reach drilling technology.
