The Ascension of the Lord Cathedral features a Greek cross layout with equal arms and stands as the largest religious structure in Târgu Mureș.
Construction of the cathedral started in 1925 under Archpriest Ștefan Rusu, with Minister Alexandru Lapedatu and Bishop Nicolae Ivan participating in the cornerstone ceremony.
The cathedral interior includes murals completed in 1986 and an iconostasis crafted by Traian Bobletec from the nearby village of Nazna.
The cathedral maintains regular opening hours for visitors and operates as the main Orthodox religious center in Târgu Mureș, with services held throughout the week.
Despite its grand scale and architectural importance, the building technically holds church status as it serves as the seat of an archpriest.
