Millennium Church, Catholic church in Fabric district, Timișoara, Romania.
The Millennium Church is a Catholic church in the Fabric district of Timișoara designed in Gothic Revival style. It features three naves, an octagonal crossing tower, and thick exterior walls built from raw brick that measure up to 1.64 meters thick.
Construction started in 1896 under architect Ludwig von Ybl and builder Josef Kremer, commemorating 1000 years since the Hungarian state was formed. The building arose during a period when Timișoara was a growing cosmopolitan city attracting settlers from across Europe.
The church holds services in four languages: Hungarian, German, Romanian, and Italian, reflecting the diverse faiths present in the city. This multilingual approach shows how different communities have historically coexisted and worshipped in the same building.
The church is located at Piața Romanilor 6 in the Fabric district and can accommodate around 3000 people for religious services and events. The central position makes it easy to reach and the interior layout is accessible to visitors.
The interior displays stained glass windows created by Hungarian and German artisans, including one bearing architect Ludwig von Ybl's coat of arms. The architect donated this window himself, making it a personal mark on the building.
