Holy Trinity Cathedral, Eastern Orthodox cathedral in Sibiu, Romania
Holy Trinity Cathedral is an Eastern Orthodox church in Sibiu built with red and yellow brick that stands out in the city. The structure spans about 53 meters long, 25 meters wide, and 35 meters tall, topped with two rectangular towers and several domes.
Construction started in 1902 following a major donation that enabled the demolition of eight houses and a smaller church to make room for the new building. This clearance allowed the cathedral to rise as a new landmark in the city center.
The name refers to the Holy Trinity, which shapes how the interior is organized and decorated throughout the building. Worshippers and visitors encounter this theme woven into the artistic choices that fill the space.
The cathedral sits on Mitropoliei Street and is easy to reach on foot from most parts of town. Wheelchair access is available, allowing visitors of all mobility levels to enter and explore the interior.
The architectural design blends elements inspired by Constantinople's Hagia Sophia with features typical of Transylvanian church building. This combination of Eastern and local styles sets it apart from other buildings in the city.
