Bujorii de stepă Zau de Câmpie

The protected area extends over 3.49 hectares of meadowland, encompassing two distinct parcels within the continental bioregion of Transylvania.

Botanist Alexandru Borza established the nature reserve in 1932 with an initial area of 2.5 hectares to protect the wild peony species.

Local traditions include a folk tale about the red peonies representing tears of a girl whose lover was killed by his brother.

The reserve welcomes visitors from April to May when the wild peonies bloom, with designated paths created by volunteers for plant protection.

The location represents the highest altitude adaptation point for the Paeonia tenuifolia species, growing at 450-500 meters above sea level.
