Arad Casino, heritage site in Arad County, Romania
Arad Casino is a historic structure completed around 1872 featuring eclectic architecture that blends neo-Baroque and neo-Classical styles. The square building displays ornamental stucco work and decorative columns with Corinthian capitals throughout its design.
Built around 1872, the structure quickly became popular for relaxation and socializing among Arad's wealthy residents. In 1890 and 1891, it hosted exhibitions where Timișoreana Beer received medals, cementing its importance as a cultural and industrial showcase venue.
The Casino was where Arad's wealthy residents and intellectuals like writer Ioan Slavici gathered to socialize. It represents the refined social customs of its era, showing how people of means spent their time in relaxation and conversation.
The building sits near the Children's Park and provides access to historic rooms as well as outdoor areas overlooking the nearby Mureș River. It is centrally located and easily reached on foot from Arad's downtown area.
The summer months brought a lovely garden where visitors could relax, while winters transformed the grounds into an ice skating rink popular with local youth. This dual-use arrangement made it a lively gathering place year-round.
