Pestera Bolii

Pestera Bolii is a limestone cave near Petrosani with a passage extending about 455 meters through natural formations. The entrance opens into a spacious opening, and inside the cave, a stream has carved channels through the rock over thousands of years.

The cave takes its name from the Bolia family, who held lands and forests in this region during medieval times. The family's connection to the area left a lasting mark on the location's identity.

The main chamber serves as a concert venue where musical events take place against natural rock walls. Local communities have gathered here for performances, making it a space where art and nature meet.

The passage through the cave is walkable and can be crossed on horseback under suitable conditions. Wear sturdy shoes as the ground is often damp and uneven, and bring a light source since the interior remains dark.

What makes this cave remarkable is that the Jupaneasca stream flows gently enough through the limestone that the entire passage can be traversed on horseback. This creates an unusual experience where visitors can ride through an underground tunnel shaped by water.
