Teleki Castle

Teleki Castle is a Baroque residence in Gornești with a distinctive U-shaped layout that reveals elegant living spaces and refined details. The upper floor features a grand salon decorated with original plasterwork, Rococo porcelain stoves, and three ornamental chandeliers.

Construction started in 1772 under architect Schmidt Pál, who oversaw the project from a distance and never visited Transylvania. The building work extended across several decades with different craftsmen taking on successive roles in its completion.

The rooms reflect the tastes of the Teleki family, who furnished their homes across Hungary and Transylvania with similar design choices. The spaces show how this family moved between regions and left its mark on every property they owned.

The castle is currently undergoing restoration work, so visiting conditions may be limited or affected by ongoing construction activity. It is best to check current opening hours and access conditions before planning your visit.

Completion stretched across three generations of the Teleki family, with successive leaders each bringing different visions to the project. This extended building period means the castle blends elements from different phases of Baroque and Rococo design.
