The monastery features a traditional Romanian religious architecture with stone walls, arched windows, and a central courtyard surrounded by cloisters.
Founded before 1095 during the reign of King Ladislaus I of Hungary, the abbey served as the first Benedictine monastery in Transylvania.
The monastery functioned as an authentication center for documents, contributing to the administrative and legal development of medieval Transylvania.
Visitors can access the monastery grounds through the main entrance on Manastur Street, with guided tours available during regular opening hours.
The monastery's archives contained 42 volumes in the early 15th century, managed by Abbot Antal who defended the abbey's land rights.
