Cluj-Mănăștur Calvaria Church is a medieval religious building standing on a strategic hilltop with high earthen embankments and traces of ellipsoidal fortifications from the Middle Ages. The structure displays Gothic architecture with a simplified nave that was built in the 19th century over ancient foundations.
History
The building was founded in 1095 as a Benedictine abbey and rebuilt following the Tartar invasion of 1241, with only the lion emblem surviving from earlier times. This early foundation and reconstruction after the invasion shaped the structure as it appears today.
Culture
The church keeps its original Gothic architectural details, including an ancient gate and a medieval sundial that mentions Abbot Anton. These elements show how important this place has been for religious practice over many centuries.

Visitors can reach the building through the southeast corner of the hill, and it is advisable to plan about 45 minutes for your visit. The path is steep, and comfortable shoes are recommended for an enjoyable experience.
