Plevnei Square in Timișoara, Historic square in Elisabetin district, Timișoara, Romania.
Plevnei Square is a rectangular plaza in the Elisabetin district surrounded by residential buildings that frame a central green space with Gheorghe Doja Park. The area is bounded by General Henri Berthelot Street to the north and Mitropolit Ioan Mețianu Street to the south.
The square was established in 1903 on land that previously served as a timber yard and livestock market. Its original name Dózsa tér was changed to Plevnei in 1919 when the area was redeveloped as a residential neighborhood.
The residential buildings surrounding the square display Art Nouveau architecture, with their facades featuring decorative floral patterns, animal figures, and sculpted faces that reflect early 20th-century design tastes.
The square is easily accessible from central Timișoara and connects to local tram lines serving the wider area. Visitors should explore the park during daylight hours when tree shade is available and the architectural details of surrounding buildings are most visible.
A bronze statue of Gheorghe Doja stands in the central park, surrounded by linden, locust, and cherry plum trees arranged in the style of a classical French garden. This combination creates a formal green space that anchors the residential character of the neighborhood.
