Water Palace of Timișoara, Historic monument at the entrance of Iosefin district, Timișoara, Romania
The Water Palace of Timișoara is a three-story building with a rectangular plan and rich ornamental details on all sides. Its facade displays a carefully composed arrangement of decorative elements and structural features, including columns, cornices, and ornamental details.
The building was erected in 1901 by the Timiș-Bega Hydro-improvement Company and originally served water management purposes. It was expanded through renovations in 1910 that gave it its current form.
The building takes its name from the water basin decorations covering its facade with fish, shells, and aquatic motifs. These details reflect the importance of water management in the early development of the city.
The building now houses the Banat Water Basin Administration and is not open for public tours inside. From the street, you can fully appreciate the architecture and ornamental details from the exterior.
The central entrance is crowned with a wooden cupola tower that gives the building a distinctive vertical emphasis. The eastern side features double Ionic columns with elaborately designed pediments that are only fully visible from that perspective.
