Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport, International airport in Surcin, Serbia
Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport is an international airport in Surčin west of Belgrade, serving as the primary air travel hub for Serbia. The facility features two parallel runways and a modern terminal building with departure and arrival halls.
The facility replaced the former Dojno Polje Airport in 1962, built on new grounds west of the city. Since then, the terminal has undergone several expansions to accommodate growing passenger numbers and modern aviation requirements.
Named after Nikola Tesla, the Serbian-born inventor whose image and quotations appear throughout the terminal building. Travelers encounter his presence through wall panels and displays explaining his work on alternating current and wireless transmission.
The airport sits roughly 18 kilometers west of Belgrade city center and connects directly via the A3 motorway. Licensed taxis and scheduled buses run regularly between the terminal and downtown, with journey times ranging from 20 to 40 minutes depending on traffic conditions.
The adjacent Aeronautical Museum preserves over 200 aircraft and helicopters from different eras, including rare Yugoslav military machines and an F-117 wreckage from the Kosovo conflict. Visitors can tour the collection outside the airport grounds, reaching it on foot or by car.
