Kaona Monastery

Kaona is an Orthodox monastery in Vladimirci with a church built in Byzantine style featuring brick walls on stone foundations and dedicated to Saint Archangel Michael. The grounds contain several structures and areas that together form a religious complex still in use today.

The monastery traces its origins to the 14th century, with local tradition attributing its foundation to Ikonija, sister of medieval Serbian knight Milos Obilic. These origins connect the site to important figures in Serbian medieval history.

The monastery houses a relic of Saint Parascheva and displays intricate woodcarvings created by hieremonk Dorotej. These artworks reflect the spiritual importance of the place and draw visitors who come to worship and pray.

The site lies away from main roads, so it helps to check the location beforehand and be prepared for a longer walk. The monastery grounds are relatively straightforward to explore since the main buildings and chapels are clearly visible.

The monastery grounds contain a small cave chapel dedicated to the Nativity of Christ, specifically built to commemorate two thousand years since that event. This chapel offers a quiet retreat and shows the community's deep spiritual connection to its past.
