Radovašnica monastery, Serbian Orthodox monastery in Šabac, Serbia.
Radovašnica monastery is a Serbian Orthodox religious building located in Šabac at the base of Mount Cer, surrounded by oak, beech, and linden trees. The structure displays traditional Byzantine design with crossed rectangular forms and rounded altar apses.
The monastery first appeared in Turkish census records from 1548. It suffered multiple destructions over the centuries, including severe damage during the World Wars.
The monastery holds a marble iconostasis and displays traditional Serbian Orthodox design elements with its distinctive architectural forms. Visitors can observe how the interior space continues to serve as a place of spiritual significance for those who come to pray and reflect.
The site is accessible by several routes from Belgrade, with Route 21 via the E75 motorway providing the quickest access. The journey takes less than two hours from the capital.
During recent renovations, builders laid 9000 individual stones, with each piece dedicated to specific figures from Serbian heritage. This approach created a lasting physical link between the rebuilt structure and the historical figures remembered within it.
