Vidin Grad, fortress in Donji Dobrić, Serbia
Vidin Grad is a fortress ruin located on the Vidojevica hill near Lešnica in Serbia. The structure featured stone walls, reinforced ramparts with at least two towers, and a central plateau approximately 50 meters across that served as the fortress base.
The fortress was established in the 1500s as a strategic position during Ottoman rule, controlling an important mountain pass in the region. It became a key site during Serbian uprisings against Ottoman forces in the early 1800s and experienced numerous skirmishes throughout this period.
The site sits on a hilltop offering views of the surrounding landscape and the Drina River. The remaining walls and earthworks are partly covered with vegetation but are still visible and accessible for exploration on foot.
The fortress served as a derbend, a term for a guarded mountain pass vital for trade and military movement. This role made it a junction connecting different regions and peoples along one of the era's most important trade routes.
