Čokešina monastery

Čokešina monastery is a religious complex situated on the slopes of Vidojevica mountain, comprising a church, residential buildings, a chapel, and a cemetery where tombstones rest beneath the trees. The compound spreads across several structures that display traditional Orthodox architectural style.

This site was rebuilt in the 1820s, replacing an earlier structure destroyed during the First Serbian Uprising. Its reconstruction represented an effort to restore religious life after a period of turmoil.

The community of nuns here follows Orthodox traditions and maintains daily rhythms of prayer and spiritual life that shape the character of the place. Visitors can observe how religious practices continue to structure daily activity in the monastery grounds.

The site is located in hills north of Loznica and is best reached on foot after leaving the main road. Access involves walking along rural paths, so visitors should wear sturdy shoes and allow time for the trek.

Inside the church hangs a religious icon painting from the 19th century dedicated to the Virgin Mary. The grounds also preserve ancient stone tablets that connect the monastery to earlier religious periods.
