Cer, Mountain range in western Serbia
Cer is a mountain range in western Serbia rising 689 meters above sea level with dense Turkey oak forests covering its slopes. The peaks sit near the town of Šabac and span a wide forested area with varied terrain.
The mountain gained military importance during World War I when Serbian forces fought Austro-Hungarian troops in August 1914. This early victory became one of the first significant successes for the Serbian army in the wider conflict.
The village of Tekeriš on the southeastern slopes contains a memorial complex where visitors can see tributes to those who died in the fighting. The place still carries the memory of these soldiers through its monuments and inscriptions.
Several hiking trails cross through the forested areas with different entry points for exploring year-round. The best hiking season is spring through fall when weather is stable and trails are easy to walk.
During World War I, one of the first aerial combats took place here during reconnaissance missions. This event marked an early turning point in the history of military aviation.
